This kids and I have been reading the story of Esther this week. It is one of only two books in the Bible named after a female. The other is Ruth. If you’d like to learn more about the books of the bible, head HERE for an easy to follow chart. You’ll also see that Esther is a form of written Biblical history and presented to us as such.
The Main Theme
If you’re unfamiliar with the story of Esther the overarching message of the book is the truth that God is sovereign in his love and care for his people. However, whether you are familiar with this story or not, there is a popular scripture verse in 4:14 it says; “perhaps you were created for such a time as this” and what the writer here is referencing is Esther herself.
Esther was given, through a series of God orchestrated events, an influential position. She was given it at just the right time to save her people. To save hundreds if not millions of Jewish people from destruction.
What does it mean for me? For us?
I truly believe that God, in his sovereignty, created EACH of us for such a time as this – to live through an unprecedented time, a global pandemic right NOW. He is not surprised by this pandemic and he is not surprised that you’re living through it!
God is a God or order and design, He has blessed each of us with a gift. I feel God asking me, asking us to examine what those God given positions and gifts are. As well as how we can use them to encourage and help ALL people. If you’re amazing at drawing – now is your time to shine! Draw pictures in the streets, send them in the mail. If you’re a baker, bake those treats! If you are organized, give tips to those who need some help! Do you own a company? Are you able to donate masks or resources – do that! You get the idea, make it rain your kindness and God given gifts, talent and position.
YOU WERE CREATED FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS!
Also, if you’re reading this and thinking “but I don’t know what my gift is!” Can I encourage you to sit with God and ask him? Ask him to show you what it is and how to use it. Let me remind you, it can be something you might perceive as the small. But, know that even the smallest of things, the smallest of acts of kindness, done in love, can make the biggest impact!
I truly believe, we all will get through this together – because we all were created for such a time as this.
