“I’m scared” She whispered to the dark.
“I know. I’m here” The dark seemed to whisper back.
There is nowhere you can go, there is nowhere you can walk – that He has not already been. If God is for you, who can be against you.
I’ve been in this scenario numerous times. Whispering to the dark as I grasp for solid ground in my mind. Fighting what we all fight from time to time – fear. We all struggle with fear on some level or another and it can ebb and flow in seasons. However, at the root of all fear is control, or lack of control.
I personally am finding myself in a season where I am learning to identify my fears. I do this in a practice known as “spiritual holding” and you can learn more about that HERE. It is in this practice that we sit with our emotions in attempt to name them. Because what stays in the dark cannot be dealt with. We must bring our fears to light.
Jesus reminds us that there is no fear in love, and Jesus is perfect Love. 1 John 4:18.
We’re also reminded in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind.
This is a reminder to us that fear does not serve us. It is not from God. Do not allow fear to be your motivator. Instead replace that fear with the unending and unwavering love of God.
Sit with your fears today. Name them. Call them to light as you allow God to wash away every last one. If you struggle with fear, you’re not alone. I encourage you to seek out and open your heart to the Love God has for you as you drown out every voice, until the only voice you hear – is His.
SCRIPTURE VERSES TO HELP COMBAT FEAR
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a Spirit of fear, but one of sound power, love and self discipline.”
Isaiah 41:10 “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
My prayer is this is the beginning of finding freedom from fear, for we are no longer a slave to fear in Jesus Christ.
