I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. John 15:5
Over the past several months I’ve felt stagnant. Deeply stagnant. Like a rock weighted heavily in a river. Beneath a rapid current that rushed past above. The current rushing past only forces me to pivot, but never to make forward motion. It’s unnerving to see it, potentially more so to feel it.
Like sunshine peeking through muddy waters to my ever stagnant position at the bottom of the water, God reminded me of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 which tells us this;
For everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and time to build,
a time to week and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to sane,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for ward and a time for peace.
Seasonal Living with Christ
The mindset of seasonal living in Christ is a gift. It releases us from the pressures of attempting to control circumstances. As we come before the Lord, bringing our honesty and bearing our truth, because he is the gardener, he cultivates space within us. It is here our emotions and circumstances are pressed to the rod of his truth. Which in part, is space for seasons in our lives. To live peacefully in relationship with God and with ourselves we must make space, cultivate room for seasonal living in Christ.
Productivity, feelings, circumstances and the rushing waters above. Though real and worth validating, they are but passing seasons. For when it is your time the current will gather you up and take you along with it. But until then, look up, be reminded of seasons and remain strong in The One who promises to produce a fruit in you, in the proper season.
Fruitfulness
John 15:5 reminds us to stay attached to The Vine, but this vine is not so that we can be fruitful in terms of productivity. Of course, we can be, but this fruit is so much more. It is eternal life in Christ. It also encompasses our Spiritual Fruit. Spiritual fruit is lasting and true. It gives life and it washes clean the confusion stagnation can bring.
My friend, if you feel stuck, if you feel stagnant, whether in deed, feeling or circumstance, hold on to this promise that is for you. God is not a God of confusion. Though he may call us into seasons of waiting, seasons of rest or seasons of quiet, remain strong in the Lord. He is faithful to produce a good work in you, one that bears lasting kingdom fruit. Every winter must end and the giver of life shall breathe his life into again. Walk in the truth of knowing your Good God in his benevolent love for you, sees you. He takes compassion on you and he is in complete control.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I feel stagnant and stuck. You are the giver of life, the mover of mountains and the light beneath my feet. You are hope, joy and peace. I pray now for revival in my spirit. For your peace and patience as it produces trust in me. In Jesus name, Amen.
Scripture
Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path.
Psalm 119:105
“Have faith in God” Jesus answered.
Mark 11:22
Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if wee do not give up.
Galations 6:9
